Gregory Coates

Gregory Coates (b. Washington, DC, 1961) attended the Corcoran School of Art (1984/85), the Kunst Akademie in Düsseldorf, Germany (1985/87) and The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine (1990).

Gregory Coates has mounted numerous solo exhibitions including in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, London, Berlin, Munich, Vienna and Kyoto. His most prestigious awards include, The Joan Mitchell Foundation- and The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. In addition, he is a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow. He has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem (New York, NY), Kunsthaus Tacheles (Berlin), the International Triangle Artist-Workshop (Capetown, South Africa) and held visiting artist position in numerous American Universities including the University of Rhode Island, the State University of Illinois and the School of Visual Arts in New York.

His work is prominently featured in public, private and museum collections amongst them, The Smithsonian Institute of Art, The Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art, The Studio Museum in Harlem, (New York, NY), Microsoft, Inc (Toronto, Canada and Redmond Washington), Burrell Communications, Inc., (Chicago, IL), Phillip Morris Corporation, The Coca Cola Bottling Company, (Philadelphia, PA), Bank of Delaware, City of Düsseldorf, Germany, Hotel Camelsgarden, Telluride, CO, and the city of Obama, Japan. Coates serves on the Artistic Board of Verbier 3-D Foundation Sculpture Park and Residency. He lives and works in Allentown, PA.

Gregory Coates a monté de nombreuses expositions en solo notamment à New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Londres, Berlin, Munich, Vienne et Kyoto.  Ses distinctions les plus prestigieuses sont la Bourse de La Joan Mitchell Foundation- et celle de La Pollock-Krasner Foundation. De surcroît il est un membre de la New York Foundation for the Arts. Il a été Artiste-en Résidence à la Studio Museum à Harlem (New York, NY), à la Kunsthaus Tacheles (Berlin), à la International Triangle Artist-Workshop (Capetown, Afrique du Sud) et occupé la position d’artiste honoraire dans de nombreuses universités américaines dont la University of Rhode Island, the State University of Illinois et la School of Visual Art à New York.
