André Raboud (Monthey, Switzerland) was born in Strasbourg in 1949. Since 1969 he has dedicated himself exclusively to sculpting, and in that first year he exhibited in the Galerie de la Salle in the centre of Monthey.
His work is profoundly linked to his knowledge and respect of material through direct stone carving. His travels and encounters have regularly influenced the direction of his work.
In 1979, for his tenth anniversary of sculpting, he organised an outdoor group show in the Tour de Duin Park in Bex, Switzerland. Research of reclining funerary figures, sacred places, and rites of passage. From his trips to Japan in 1990 and 1992, he created an impressive series of sculptures in lava and serpentine on the theme of the man who screams, which stemmed from a visit to the Museum of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. He then turned towards a more intimate and silent sculpture.
Thirty years of sculpture in 1999 and back to the Tour de Duin Park, for a large exhibition, solo this time, which was reported by many prestigious publications. Today, this formal repertoire focuses increasingly on the theme of lovers, large steles and monoliths all in black granite from India or Africa. Most recently, Raboud has had many exhibitions, notably in the South of France, the Valais and New York. Many monumental commissions attest to his fame. He lives and works in Monthey, Switzerland.

Ses recherches formelles sont centrées sur le thème de l’agression et de la concentration, le corps et sa volupté. Dès 1978, il se consacre à des travaux plus symboliques fondés sur ses recherches autour des gisants, des lieux sacrés et des lieux de passage. Les années 80 sont marquées par deux importantes expositions personnelles: l’une à la Fondation Pierre Gianadda à Martigny en 1983, l’autre au Musée cantonal des beaux-arts de Sion en 1989. Dès 1990, profondément marqué par un voyage au Japon, il se tourne vers une sculpture plus intimiste et silencieuse. Dès la fin des années 90, son répertoire formel se concentre sur la thématique des Amants, des grandes Stèles et des Monolithes. Il expose régulièrement en Valais, en Suisse ainsi qu’en France et à New York. De nombreuses commandes monumentales témoignent de sa reconnaissance. En 2009, une importante partie de son travail est présentée au Théâtre du Crochetan à Monthey. Quarante ans de sculpture y sont exposés, montrant une œuvre cohérente, à la charge symbolique forte, d’une volonté essentialiste affirmée et d’une capacité émotionnelle soutenue.
