Josette Taramarcaz was born in 1951 in Martigny, Switzerland. She lives and works in Fully, Switzerland.
After studying to be a teacher, she trained as a ceramicist at the School of Applied Arts in Vevey and then focused on sculpture. Since 1991, she has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Switzerland, France, Germany, Egypt and Japan, where her work is part of public and private collections. She has won several competitions for public art sculptures. She also creates theatre backdrops.
Josette Taramarcaz’s work follows a subjective logic, based on emotion, roots and memory. Her approach is above all linked to human representation in both monumental and miniature format, in clay, porcelain, concrete and bronze. Often shown as part of a group with a dynamic tension or in an installation, her work conveys the image of our both fragile and strong humanity.
Alternating between the figurative and the abstract, Josette Taramarcaz combines in both facets of her sculpture the same opposing forces: mass and weight, the pull of the earth and reality, to which she opposes fragility, lightness and the belief that flight is possible.
