Sous Vos Pieds is a captivating installation by local artist Melody Sky that explores the hidden dynamics of water — the vital force that shapes the alpine environment and sustains its fragile ecosystems.

Created in collaboration with the local water utility ALTIS, the work uses a rich palette of colors to visually interpret the complex interplay of groundwater sources, glacial melt, and seasonal flows monitored across the region. Deep cobalt tones evoke the depths of springs and glacier-fed aquifers, soft aqua reflects high-altitude snowmelt seepage, and muted grey-beige symbolizes the mineral-rich, seasonally fluctuating groundwater typical of Val de Bagnes.

Rooted in real hydrological data, from water hardness to seasonal variations, Sous Vos Pieds transforms scientific information into a sensory experience, inviting viewers to contemplate the unseen forces flowing just beneath their feet. The installation also highlights ALTIS’s crucial role: their extensive infrastructure, including over 300 kilometers of drinking water pipes, 77 sources, 41 reservoirs, and 153 kilometers of irrigation networks, delivers two billion liters of clean mountain water annually to the region.

Much of this water network lies hidden beneath the Sculpture Park itself, making Sous Vos Pieds both a tribute and a revelation and an artistic lens revealing the silent systems that sustain life in the Alps. Through this work, the partnership brings environmental awareness to the forefront, celebrating the essential yet often invisible connections between nature and community.

The Foundation commissioned local artist and filmmaker Melody Sky to develop this project. Known for her dynamic visual storytelling and deep affinity for nature, Sky’s work captures the elemental energy and sublime beauty of mountain landscapes. Her films and photographs which are frequently shot from summits, helicopters, and ski slopes, blend adventure with a sensitive reflection on humanity’s relationship with the environment. With Sous Vos Pieds, she creates an immersive experience that honors the alpine waterscapes and the unseen forces sustaining them.
