Launched in 2025, the Pavillon de l’Eau is a bold new public art initiative from the Verbier 3-D Sculpture Park that reimagines how large scale visual art can meaningfully engage with the alpine landscape and with water, the essential and life-sustaining force that shapes it.
Set high in the Swiss Alps, the initiative draws attention to the vital role water plays in mountain environments like Verbier, where glacial melt, snowfall, and alpine streams are not only foundational to the ecosystem but also deeply connected to the region’s culture, economy, and future. As the climate continues to change, these water sources are becoming increasingly fragile, making the need for reflection, awareness, and action more urgent than ever.
Transforming a format once reserved for advertising into a space for contemplation, the Pavillon de l’Eau redefines how public art engages with nature and community. This striking 8 by 3 meter installation series explores the vital presence of water in our alpine environment, inviting reflection on its beauty, power, and fragility.
Each year, the Pavillon de l’Eau invites artists to submit original works that respond to the theme of water in its many dimensions — environmental, cultural, social, or poetic. One selected work will be presented annually in a panoramic format, printed on weather resistant fabric and mounted on a custom built metal structure in a striking scenic location within the Sculpture Park.
This long term series offers the public an unexpected and immersive encounter with contemporary art in the heart of the mountains. By focusing on water, an element that both nourishes and challenges alpine ecosystems, Pavillon de l’Eau invites artists and audiences alike to reflect on our deep and evolving relationship with the natural world.
